A Connecticut judge ruled Wednesday that conspiracy theorist and Infowars owner Alex Jones must sit for a deposition by attorneys for the parents of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims who are suing him for defamation.
Six families and One FBI agent who responded to the mass shooting filed a lawsuit last year accusing Jones of defamation over his repeated claims that the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut was a “giant hoax.”
Jones and Infowars continued to make these claims on broadcasts and in articles published on his website over the course of many years.
Lawyers for the parents of the victims say Jones’ conspiracy theories, including the false assertion that the parents of dead children are “crisis actors,” have led to harassment and death threats against them from Jones’ followers.
The families, in turn, filed suit against him for making defamatory statements that were knowingly false, or made with a disregard for the truth.
“Even after these folks had to experience this trauma, for the next five years they were tormented by Alex Jones with vicious lies about them,” said Mark Bankston, the lawyer handling the cases for the parents. “And these lies were meant to convince his audience that the Sandy Hook parents are frauds and have perpetrated a sinister lie on the American people.”
The InfoWars conspiracy broadcaster, who was granted a White House press credential by the Trump administration in 2017, has warned his viewers for years that the government was turning people gay by putting chemicals in their juice boxes, water bottles, and potato chip bags that feminized men.
“The reason there are so many gay people now is because it’s a chemical warfare operation,” Jones said in 2010. “I have the government documents where they said they’re going to encourage homosexuality with chemicals so people don’t have children.”
In 2017, Jones issued a bizarre warning about liberal lesbians that physically abuse women and eat their brains.
That same year Jones claimed that spreading HIV “is a culture now in the gay community.”
He also resurrected his gay frogs conspiracy theory in a Thursday discussion about humanoid hybrids that he claims are “like 80 percent gorilla, 80 percent pig, and they’re talking.”
